THE FOLLOWING PAINTING started at some indeterminable point of time when I was doing a lot of my acrylic stuff. Probably like 2017-2018. At that point, I had just done the head in blacks and blues. I quite liked the line work but for whatever reason couldn’t hack completing it at the time, so I’ve been hauling it around for seven to eight years mostly ignoring it. Since I’m back in the spirit of real paint, it was nice to finally revisit and complete it. I mean look at that beautiful schnoz.

That aforementioned ur-painting of the head was actually done over two other scrapped pieces. The first (or maybe it was the second) was an experiment in drip and duct tape (I was obsessed with it) that I think is supposed to show a grave on the moon, with a roman cross reading “We’re fighting with the eyes of the blind” (another blatant lyric rip). The other painting showed a raised hand in a halo with repeated text reading (I think) “weren’t they worth it” that was clumsily meant to be commentary on extrajudicial killings. Both were technically completed, but they displeased me and I felt compelled to paint over them so their physical presence would not continue to disturb me. Here’s some photos of my bastards:

In other news, I’m considering doing a daily series of sketches to try and improve my figurativism. If I do so, I’ll probably post them to my Bluesky and compile them for newsletters so that I’m not barraging emails. If I don’t do said series, then you can pretend I never said this and/or add it to a long record of my lies.

Much love.
